RING SIZE GUIDE
Discover our expert advice on ring sizing, whether you're buying for yourself or planning a surprise proposal.
How to Find Your Ring Size
The most accurate way to determine your ring size is by using a professional finger‑measuring tool, the same one jewellers use in-store. This method accounts for comfort, finger shape, and subtle size variations that at‑home methods can miss. At Labelle, you're always welcome to book a free ring sizing appointment in our atelier, whether for yourself or while planning a surprise proposal.
If visiting a jeweller isn't possible, you can still measure your ring size at home using one of the methods below.
Method 1: Measure Your Finger
- Take a strip of paper or a piece of non‑stretch string.
- Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you'll wear the ring on.
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimetres.
- Use a ring size chart to match the measurement to your ring size.
Method 2: Measure an Existing Ring
- Choose a ring that fits comfortably on the correct finger.
- Place it on a flat surface.
- Measure the inner diameter straight across the centre using a ruler.
- Compare the measurement to a ring size chart to find the correct size.
For added accuracy, we also provide a printable ring size guide. Make sure the document is printed at 100% scale on A4 paper and verify the scale using a ruler. Place a well‑fitting ring over the printed sizing circles and match the inner edge of the ring precisely. If your ring falls between two sizes, choosing the larger size usually offers the best comfort.
If you're unsure or want complete peace of mind, our team is always happy to assist you in person.
How Should a Ring Fit?
Snug but Comfortable
Your ring should feel secure and comfortable on your finger without being tight or restrictive. It shouldn't spin excessively or slide around loosely.
Easy On, Slight Resistance Off
The ring should slide on easily but require a gentle twist or slight resistance when removing it. This helps ensure the ring stays secure during everyday wear.
Consider Temperature
Fingers naturally swell in warm temperatures and shrink in cold conditions. For the most accurate fit, it's best to measure your ring size when your hands are at a normal temperature, typically later in the afternoon.

Tips for Measuring Ring Size as a Surprise
Measuring ring size for a surprise proposal can feel tricky, but these discreet tips can help you get it right without spoiling the moment.

Borrow a Ring
Temporarily borrow a ring they already wear on their left ring finger. You can trace the inside of the ring on paper or have it measured by a jeweller for an accurate size.
Ask Friends or Family
Close friends, family members, or siblings may already know their ring size from previous jewellery purchases or conversations.
When in Doubt, Size Up
It's easier to resize a ring smaller than larger. If you're unsure between two sizes, choosing a slightly larger size usually offers the safest option.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know my correct ring size?
The most accurate way to determine your correct ring size is to visit a jeweller for professional ring sizing using a finger-measuring tool. This ensures the best fit and comfort. Alternatively, you can measure an existing ring that fits well or use the paper strip method described above. For the most reliable result, always measure at room temperature, when your hands are at their normal size, as fingers can swell or shrink with temperature changes.
Can my ring be resized later?
Yes, most rings can be resized depending on the ring design and setting. At Labelle, we offer complimentary ring resizing within 40 days of receiving your ring. However, certain styles, such as full eternity bands or heavily engraved rings, may have resizing limitations due to their design. If you're unsure, we recommend contacting us to discuss your specific ring, and our team will be happy to advise you.
What if I get the ring size wrong when proposing?
Don't worry, this is very common, and many proposals involve a ring that needs resizing after the proposal. At Labelle, we offer complimentary ring resizing within 40 days, so you can propose with confidence. If you're unsure between two sizes, it's generally better to choose a slightly larger size, as rings are easier to resize smaller than larger.
What's the difference between EU and UK ring sizes?
EU ring sizes are measured in millimetres, based on the inner circumference of the ring, while UK ring sizes use a letter-based system (A–Z). For example, EU ring size 50 corresponds to UK size J½. To make choosing the correct size easier, our ring size conversion chart above shows the equivalents across EU, UK, and other international sizing systems.
Do wide bands affect ring sizing?
Yes, wide ring bands can affect ring sizing. Wider bands typically feel tighter because they cover more surface area of the finger, which can reduce comfort. If your ring band is particularly wide (over 6mm), it's often recommended to size up by half to a full size to ensure a comfortable fit, especially for everyday wear.
